Big companies like to hire advisors to help them select an ad agency. Typically, these matchmakers send out invites to the agencies they think would fit the client the best- and then run some sort of creative show-down. It’s one way to pick an agency- but it almost guarantees that clients will only be looking at large agencies- since they are the only ones who can afford to spend unbillable time on speculative work. Gambling on an agency as a partner never seemed to make sense to me- but, since it does happen, we thought we’d provide a list of the search consultants we were aware of. Of course- for a lot less than you pay the consultants- or what you are going to pay the big agencies that they are used to putting on parade, you could spend a very reasonable amount with us- and see if we come up with the next big thing for you. Most times- even in the big shops, it’s still just an art director and a copywriter, working together that come up with the big idea.
